Waterproofing Solutions in Dehradun
Every monsoon, we hear the same problems from customers across Dehradun: water dripping from the ceiling, damp patches spreading on walls, and paint bubbling and peeling a few months after a repaint. The cause is almost always water getting into the building, and no amount of fresh paint will fix it.
We stock the Asian Paints SmartCare waterproofing range, and we can help you work out which product fits your problem.
Why buildings in Dehradun leak
Dehradun gets heavy monsoon rain, much of it in a few intense months, and many homes here have flat RCC roofs where water can collect. Hot summer days and cold winter nights make concrete and plaster expand and contract, which opens hairline cracks over time. Once water finds a crack, it spreads through the slab or wall and shows up as a leak, often some distance from where it entered.
Find the source first
Before choosing a product, work out where the water is coming from:
- Ceiling leaks on the top floor usually come from the terrace or roof.
- Damp patches on outer walls that get worse in rain usually mean seepage through the exterior wall.
- Damp at the bottom of ground-floor walls, often with white salt deposits, is usually moisture rising from the ground.
- Damp around bathrooms and kitchens can be a plumbing leak — that needs a plumber, not a coating.
Which SmartCare product fits
For terraces and flat roofs, SmartCare Damp Proof forms a seamless, flexible membrane. Damp Proof Ultra uses a PU hybrid for stronger crack-bridging, and Damp Proof Xtreme is the heavy-duty option for roofs with standing water. For exterior walls with seepage, Damp Proof Superflex is an elastomeric, crack-bridging wall coating. For damp interior and bathroom walls where paint keeps peeling, Damp Block 2K is applied under the putty and paint. And for cracked concrete or plaster, Repair Polymer helps repair mortar bond and resist cracking before you waterproof.
Doing it right
Waterproofing only works on a sound, clean surface. Remove moss, dust and loose material, open up and fill larger cracks, and let the surface dry fully. Apply the number of coats specified on the pack, letting each one dry. On terraces, pay extra attention to the joints between the floor and the parapet walls, and around drain outlets — that's where most leaks start.
The best time to waterproof is in the dry months before the monsoon, roughly March to May, so the coating can cure fully before the rain arrives. If you need someone to apply it, call us and we'll talk through your options.

Frequently asked questions
In the dry months before the monsoon, roughly March to May. The surface needs to be dry when you apply the coating, and the coating needs time to cure before heavy rain.
No. Paint over damp will bubble and peel, usually within weeks. Find and stop the source of the water first, then waterproof, then paint.
SmartCare Damp Proof suits most terraces. For older roofs with wider cracks, choose Damp Proof Ultra, and for roofs where water stands after rain, Damp Proof Xtreme.
Usually moisture is rising from the ground and pushing the paint off. SmartCare Damp Block 2K is applied under putty and paint to block it.
