Bay Brown is a reddish-brown enamel, warmer than plain brown, used on doors, frames, grills and furniture.
Its red undertone gives woodwork a richer look, and it pairs well with cream and off-white walls.
Bay Brown is a good middle ground for anyone who finds Teak Brown too light and Truck Brown too dark. It's widely used on main doors, window frames and wooden staircases.
Remove rust, old flaking paint and grease, then sand the surface lightly. Apply a suitable primer — red oxide or zinc chromate for iron, wood primer for wood. Brush on two thin coats of enamel, thinning with mineral turpentine as directed on the tin, and let the first coat dry fully before the second.
Recommended primer: Red oxide or zinc chromate primer on iron; wood primer on wood.
It has a reddish undertone, so it looks warmer than plain brown, but it still reads as brown rather than red, similar to a mahogany tone.
Yes. Synthetic enamel is made for iron and wood, indoors and outdoors. For gates and grills, remove rust and apply a metal primer first so the Bay Brown topcoat lasts longer.
Enamel is oil-based, so it's thinned with mineral turpentine, not water. Follow the thinning ratio printed on the tin, and clean your brushes with turpentine afterwards.
