About Gold Enamel

Gold enamel gives a metallic golden finish for decorative details: grill highlights, railings, frames, trims, idols and festive decorations.

It's usually used for accents over another colour rather than for large areas, and works especially well with black, maroon and white.

For grills, a common approach is to paint the whole grill in a dark colour first, then pick out the decorative patterns in Gold with a small brush once the base coat is dry.

Key features

  • Metallic gold finish
  • High gloss
  • For iron and wood

How to apply

Remove rust, old flaking paint and grease, then sand the surface lightly. Apply a suitable primer — red oxide or zinc chromate for iron, wood primer for wood. Brush on two thin coats of enamel, thinning with mineral turpentine as directed on the tin, and let the first coat dry fully before the second.

Recommended primer: Red oxide or zinc chromate primer on iron; wood primer on wood.

Enamel is oil-based, so it's thinned with mineral turpentine, not water. Follow the thinning ratio printed on the tin, and clean your brushes with turpentine afterwards.
