Bus Green is a strong, glossy mid-green enamel, often used on gates, grills, machinery, tool boxes and agricultural equipment.
It holds its colour well on outdoor metalwork and is a popular choice for school gates, garden furniture and shop shutters.
The shade gets its name from the classic green used on buses and public vehicles, which tells you it's meant to look good on working metal for years. It goes well with cream, yellow and stone-coloured walls.
Remove rust, old flaking paint and grease, then sand the surface lightly. Apply a suitable primer — red oxide or zinc chromate for iron, wood primer for wood. Brush on two thin coats of enamel, thinning with mineral turpentine as directed on the tin, and let the first coat dry fully before the second.
Recommended primer: Red oxide or zinc chromate primer on iron; wood primer on wood.
Yes. It's a good match for garden benches, swings and railings, and blends with plants. Prime bare iron first and keep the paint film even so water doesn't settle in thin spots.
Yes. Synthetic enamel is made for iron and wood, indoors and outdoors. For gates and grills, remove rust and apply a metal primer first so the Bus Green topcoat lasts longer.
Enamel is oil-based, so it's thinned with mineral turpentine, not water. Follow the thinning ratio printed on the tin, and clean your brushes with turpentine afterwards.
