Oxford Blue is a deep, rich blue enamel. It looks smart on iron gates, window grills, wooden doors and furniture.
Dark blue is a good alternative to black for metalwork, giving a classic look with a bit more colour.
Oxford Blue goes well with white, cream and light grey walls, and gives a classic, slightly formal look to main gates and front doors. It's also popular for school and office furniture.
Remove rust, old flaking paint and grease, then sand the surface lightly. Apply a suitable primer — red oxide or zinc chromate for iron, wood primer for wood. Brush on two thin coats of enamel, thinning with mineral turpentine as directed on the tin, and let the first coat dry fully before the second.
Recommended primer: Red oxide or zinc chromate primer on iron; wood primer on wood.
It's a deep, dark blue, closer to navy than to sky blue. If you'd like a brighter blue-green, look at Phirozi instead.
Yes. Synthetic enamel is made for iron and wood, indoors and outdoors. For gates and grills, remove rust and apply a metal primer first so the Oxford Blue topcoat lasts longer.
Enamel is oil-based, so it's thinned with mineral turpentine, not water. Follow the thinning ratio printed on the tin, and clean your brushes with turpentine afterwards.
