P.O. Red is the classic post-office red: a bright, glossy red for gates, grills, signboards, letter boxes and safety markings.
It's a bold colour that stands out from a distance, which makes it useful for anything that needs to be noticed.
It's also used on fire-safety items, pipes and machinery guards, where red is the conventional warning colour. On homes, P.O. Red gates and doors give a bold, traditional look against white or cream walls.
Remove rust, old flaking paint and grease, then sand the surface lightly. Apply a suitable primer — red oxide or zinc chromate for iron, wood primer for wood. Brush on two thin coats of enamel, thinning with mineral turpentine as directed on the tin, and let the first coat dry fully before the second.
Recommended primer: Red oxide or zinc chromate primer on iron; wood primer on wood.
P.O. stands for Post Office. It's the bright red traditionally used on post boxes, and it's now a common name for this shade of glossy red enamel.
Yes. Synthetic enamel is made for iron and wood, indoors and outdoors. For gates and grills, remove rust and apply a metal primer first so the P.O. Red topcoat lasts longer.
Enamel is oil-based, so it's thinned with mineral turpentine, not water. Follow the thinning ratio printed on the tin, and clean your brushes with turpentine afterwards.
Yes. We deliver P.O. Red enamel across Dehradun, usually within 1–2 days, and delivery is free on orders above ₹10,000. You can also pick it up from our shop on Vidhan Sabha Road, Defence Colony, near the Railway Crossing.
