Smoke Grey is a neutral, modern grey enamel. It suits metal gates, railings, machinery, shutters and steel furniture where you want a clean, understated finish.
Grey hides dust and wear better than light colours, so it's practical for workshops, garages and commercial shutters.
Smoke Grey suits contemporary homes too: grey grills and railings look clean against white, beige or darker exterior walls. It's also a sensible colour for electrical panels, pipes and machine bodies in workshops.
Remove rust, old flaking paint and grease, then sand the surface lightly. Apply a suitable primer — red oxide or zinc chromate for iron, wood primer for wood. Brush on two thin coats of enamel, thinning with mineral turpentine as directed on the tin, and let the first coat dry fully before the second.
Recommended primer: Red oxide or zinc chromate primer on iron; wood primer on wood.
Yes. Grey metalwork is a popular modern look and works with white, beige, charcoal and wood-tone exteriors. For a darker accent, Black or Oxford Blue are alternatives.
Yes. Synthetic enamel is made for iron and wood, indoors and outdoors. For gates and grills, remove rust and apply a metal primer first so the Smoke Grey topcoat lasts longer.
Enamel is oil-based, so it's thinned with mineral turpentine, not water. Follow the thinning ratio printed on the tin, and clean your brushes with turpentine afterwards.
