Truck Brown is a dark, practical brown enamel, traditionally used on truck bodies, trailers, gates and other heavy-use metal and wood.
Its deep tone hides dust and wear, which makes it a sensible choice for working surfaces that get knocked about.
Truck Brown is also a practical colour for godown doors, shutters, cart frames and farm equipment, where dirt and scuffs are part of daily use. On homes, it's used on back gates and utility doors.
Remove rust, old flaking paint and grease, then sand the surface lightly. Apply a suitable primer — red oxide or zinc chromate for iron, wood primer for wood. Brush on two thin coats of enamel, thinning with mineral turpentine as directed on the tin, and let the first coat dry fully before the second.
Recommended primer: Red oxide or zinc chromate primer on iron; wood primer on wood.
Truck Brown is a darker, more utilitarian brown for working metal and wood. Teak Brown is warmer and closer to natural wood, which suits doors and furniture.
Yes. Synthetic enamel is made for iron and wood, indoors and outdoors. For gates and grills, remove rust and apply a metal primer first so the Truck Brown topcoat lasts longer.
Enamel is oil-based, so it's thinned with mineral turpentine, not water. Follow the thinning ratio printed on the tin, and clean your brushes with turpentine afterwards.
